Fishing With Dad

What's the Story?
Fishing is such a traditional activity to do with your father. It is one of the only activities where you can just sit and say nothing and be comfortable with it or talk about anything with the only distraction being the occasional fish being caught. My Dad and I never really fished, but I wanted to paint this picture for the symbolic meaning of fishing. My dad passed away in 2001 when I was 20 years old. A lot of the time, I still wish I could talk to him, let him know how things are going, talk about the art, marriage, whatever...just talk. This painting shows us doing just that: talking about whatever in our own world with nobody to bother us.
You'll also notice that after the father catches the fish, he passes the rod to his son to reel it in. This just shows the support that a dad has for his son. My dad was unbelievably supportive of my painting and music. He always let us make our own desicions on what we wanted to do and he backed us up on those desicions. I think that's a sign of a great father so I really wanted to paint a piece that illustrated what he meant to me and my family and how it would be nice to just go fishing with him.
